1. The 2008 Paraplanner of the Year Award (the “Competition”) is being conducted by Australian Unity Funds Management Limited (ABN 60 071 497 115 AFS Licence No. 234454) of Level 10, 114 Albert Road, South Melbourne, Victoria 3205 (“Australian Unity”).
2. Entry to the Award is open to all residents of Australia who are currently working as paraplanners. Entrants should be paraplanners who are authorised representatives or representatives of a licensee and have partially or fully completed formal financial planning qualifications. Paraplanners who have won a state or national Award in previous years or are employed by Australian Unity or its related companies and agencies are ineligible to enter.
3. The Competition commences on 1 September 2008 and applications must be submitted in accordance with these terms and conditions by 5pm AEST on 30 September 2008.
4. To enter the Competition, applicants must:
a) Register online at www.paraplanneraward.com.au (the “Website”); and
b) Complete the exam questionnaire (answering all the questions) found on the Website and submit it (in accordance with the instructions on the Website) by 5pm AEST on 30 September 2008.
5. Applicants may only enter the Competition once. Australian Unity accepts no responsibility for incorrectly submitted, delayed, misdirected or illegible entries into this Competition.
6. A panel of judges consisting of representatives from Kaplan Professional, Financial Planning Association (FPA), Australian Unity Funds Management Limited and Money Management will review the applications and select one finalist from each state, namely New South Wales (includes ACT), Victoria (includes TAS), Queensland (includes NT), Western Australia and South Australia (the “State Winners”).
Entrants will be judged according to the number of correct answers to the multiple choice and short answer questions, as well as against specific criteria relating to their professionalism, understanding of the paraplanning industry and their involvement in the industry.
The National Winner will be selected by the judging panel, taking into account the results from the above. Members of the Panel may interview applicants at a mutually convenient time if further information is required.
7. The State Winners will be contacted by telephone and mail in October 2008 and their details will be published in Money Management.
8. State Winners in New South Wales (includes ACT), Victoria (includes TAS), Queensland (includes NT) and South Australia will receive:
a) A trip to the FPA National Conference in November 2008 on the Gold Coast including return economy airfares for one person from their nearest Australian State or Territory capital city and three nights accommodation.
b) Registration for the FPA National Conference, 18 - 21 November 2008, and registration to the pre-conference Paraplanner Masterclass workshop.
The WA State Winner will receive:
a) A trip to the FPA National Conference in November 2008 on the Gold Coast including return economy airfares for one person from their nearest Australian State or Territory capital city and five nights accommodation.
b) Registration for the FPA National Conference, 18 - 21 November 2008, and registration to the pre-conference Paraplanner Masterclass workshop.
Total value of all five state prizes is $13,955 (incl GST).
9. Using the same criteria as set out in clause 6, the Panel will select one national winner (the “National Winner”) from the State Winners. The National Winner will be announced at the FPA National Conference, 18 - 21 November 2008 and their details will be published in Money Management.
10. The National Winner will win a trip for themselves to the USA, including one return economy airfare from the National Winner’s nearest capital city, accommodation for 4 nights and registration for one person to FPA Anaheim 2009, 10 – 13 October 2009. Total value of prize for the National Winner is $5500 (incl GST).
11. Total prize pool in this Competition is $19,455 (incl GST). The winners must take the prizes on the dates specified above. The prizes cannot be redeemed for cash, exchanged or transferred to another person. All State Winners and the National Winner acknowledge and agree that all other costs associated with the prize, including taxes, insurance, transfers and other ancillary costs, are their own responsibility.
12. Chance plays no part in this Competition. The Panel’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. Any applicants or applications not complying with these terms and conditions or involving fraud or any other illegal activity may be disqualified by the Panel and/or replaced by another applicant at any time. Australian Unity reserves the right to at any time undertake any verification checks of the application submitted.
13. By entering the Competition, all applicants confirm and agree that they will abide by these terms and conditions, they are the person who submitted the application on the Website, and the application is their own work. Applicants who submit multiple entries will be judged on their first entry only.
14. Australian Unity is not responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information, either submitted by the applicant on the Website, or caused by equipment or programming used in this Competition, or for any technical error that may occur during the administration of this Competition including any omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, network failures, technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or on the Website, software failure, theft, destruction, alteration or unauthorised access to the applications or any injury or damage to any person’s computer related to, or resulting from, participating in this Competition.
15. Australian Unity and its associated agencies and companies shall not be liable in any way (including, without limitation, in negligence) for any loss or damage whatsoever suffered (including, without limitation, indirect or consequential loss) or for any loss or damage or personal injury suffered or sustained in connection with using any prize, except any liability that cannot be excluded by law.
16. By entering the Competition, State Winners and the National Winner agree to participate in publicity activities associated with the Award including interviews and photo sessions requested by the sponsors Australian Unity, FPA, Kaplan Professional and Money Management.
17. The information entrants provide will be used by Australian Unity for the purpose of conducting the Competition. Australian Unity may disclose the personal information it collects to contractors it engages to assist it in conducting the Competition or communicating with the applicant. Australian Unity is bound by the National Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988.
